The old masters, Perkins, Johnson and Jones left their adoring crowd forlorn when young aces Jason Bright and Steven Richards blitzed the field. In the popular race event of roaring V8s that fluctuated from boredom to chaos and at times absorbing, the start promised untold victory for Skaife and Lowndes who set records in the shootout for pole position. They lost with front wheel blowouts. Bright and Richards won the event hand in hand with tactics and determination. Some would say faultless Sunday drive around the mountain.
