In 1830, when he was just 19 years old, the enterprising William Teacher founded the Glasgow firm of Teacher's Scotch Whisky. By the time he reached his 40th birthday, he had established 18 Teacher's dram shops where customers could drink Teacher's Scotch whiskies on the premises. The company began selling its products beyond its own shops in the 1850's and soon experienced rapid growth.
