The two battled through all that was thrown at them including rain, safety car interventions and a late race battle for the team's first win wince 2005. The action filled and sometimes controversial race went down to the wire, but Tander led a Holden charge with the VE Commodores taking a clean-sweep of the podium and HRT taking both 2009 endures, after also winning the L&H 500 at Phillip Island the previous month. Tander and Davison had worked remarkably well all weekend and the Saturday pole position was the start of greater things to come. With Sunday's great race, the HRT #2 car had good speed, reliability and with a well organised strategy and some timely safety car periods, Tander took the lead with a few laps remaining. After 161 laps, 6 hours 40 minutes and 2 seconds, Garth Tander triumphed and crossed the finish line first, for his second Bathurst 1000 win and Will Davison's first.
