This model has been long awaited for it's development for many collectors. The model will be produced in diecast metal and will have opening parts.. This 1:18 diecast replica represents this significant piece of DJR history, representing a transitional period as Australian touring car racing embraced International Group A regulations.
The Ford Mustang GT holds a unique place in Australian touring car history, thanks to its connection with legendary driver Dick Johnson.
In 1984 Johnson and his backer Ross Palmer of Palmer Tube Mills imported a pair of Zakspeed-built Mustangs from Germany to compete under Group A regulations in Australia in 1985.
At the 1984 James Hardie 1000 at Bathurst, Johnson entered his regular Group C Ford XE Falcon and one of the new Mustangs.
Johnson and co-driver John French started fourth on the grid with the Falcon and the underpowered Mustang qualified 48th, though was withdrawn before race day to allow the team to focus on its Falcon.
