When it came out in 1989, the MX-5 revolutionized the Roadster market. The success of the MX-5 is primarily due to an American journalist, Bob Hall, who while visiting the Mazda factory suggested the idea to the brand’s boss. The latter, convinced that the small English or Italian cabriolet needed to be reinvented, hired Bob Hall. Presented at the Chicago Motor Show in February of 1989, it owes its inimitable look to the Californian design branch of the manufacturer. It would be sold as the MX-5 in Europe, the Miata in the US, and the Eunos Roadster in Japan. Fast-forward 30 years, and the MX-5 is now the most sold cabriolet in the world.
