According to some experts the XT was 'probably the best balanced, lightest feeling GT ever made.' An easier car to drive than the XR, the XT came with a limited slip diff. as standard, was more refined, provided better road handling and boasted a 230 bhp high performance V8 engine. The XT was an extremely fast vehicle. Its racing and rallying successes contributed to continued record sales for Ford Australia. A total of 1480 XTs were built between February 1968 and June 1969 (317 automatics and 1163 manuals).
