The XT Falcon was regarded as a superior car to the XR which it replaced. Both the six and eight cylinder engines offered bigger capacities and there were numerous new safety features. The XT was a favourite amongst fleet buyers and taxi companies as it offered a larger body size than both Holden and Valiant. Queensland Ambulance argued the Regent lamp looked too similar to the lamps on their emergency vehicles and after a short battle with the establishment Regent were ordered to replace their taxi lamps with something less controversial.
