With the increase in popularity of the small and medium four and six cylinder cars in the early 1970's, GM-H found it necessary to adopt a whole new approach to its mass-market offerings and turned to Germany for a suitable design. The successor to Holden's HZ was the Opel designed Commodore, released as the VB in 1978.
