The FE not only heralded a new body shape for Holden, but there were any mechanical and performance enhancements also. For the first time blinders were standard on the Specials and a 12-volt electrical system came in.
Three colour variations were produced, all depicting two-tone versions of the 'Special' Sedan. Production quantities ranged from 3,600 for the Cabot Grey/Gypsy Red version to 3,000 of the Shoreline Beige/Pueblo Tan and 3,200 of the very popular Elk Blue/Teal Blue. They appeared simultaneously in 2002 and sales were to illustrate the significance of colour to Trax collectors. Although they were produced in greater quantities, the red and blue FE Specials sold out well ahead of the beige cars.
