Without a doubt this was the most controversial and disappointing new Trax release of all time, talk about the model imitating the original! When Trax Roadshow attendees during 2001 were asked what models they would like to see made there was a resounding support for the P76. Despite lingering doubts on the part of Trax management, tooling was commissioned and the model appeared in January 2003. Yet the phones in Trax customer service centre were silent. Eventually, in 2004, Trax took the unprecedented step of offering remaining stocks of P76s at discounted prices and, miraculously, the warehouse shelves emptied. Ironically, within months of the last TR42s being sold, collector market values for these once shunned releases had increased considerably on the $36.95 issue price. September 2005 brought a P76 of a different hue and with considerable collector appeal. Production quantities for the TR42D Targa Florio were cut significantly when compared to the Super releases and the model was produced in just one colour the very popular Omega Navy. Characterising the Trax 'Targa' were its unique-design alloy wheels and broad side stripes with integrated 'Targa Florio' lettering. Aspen Green was released in late 2008 as the only colour remaining to be produced at 2,400 pieces that sold well.
