In June 1972 Chrysler updated the E49 Charger with a new four speed Borg Warner gearbox, a 10:1 compression ratio Hemi engine, to produce the most powerful six cylinder production car of its time. Leo Geoghegan drove his E49 Charger to a creditable fourth place in the 1972 Bathurst race behind the Chivas/Beck E49 Charger. It was to be the best race effort for the E49 Chargers.
