Vintage Cars: 1886 to 1930 by G.N. Georgano
The creation of the automobile was the last, and most far-reaching, of man's great adventures in improving land transportation. Yet within only a few decades the "horseless carriage", by the efforts and exploits of dedicated inventors, racers and industrialists in Europe and America, grew into the reliable and popular motor car that was soon to flourish around the world. A Phenomenal variety of cars and was of making and using them, appeared - and often disappeared - between the close of the nineteenth century and the Depression, and amazing numbers of theses early vehicles are still being driven as well as admired. The beauty of old cars, the challenge of the first highways, and the tempo of the global car business in its infancy, are further aspects of a story which also holds more than one lesson for today's society on wheels.
